Montanans for Trap Free Public Lands - Our Mission

We are a Ballot Initiative Committee formed by Footloose Montana. As a true grassroots group, we are composed of folks from all walks of life; citizens, and outdoor recreationists including hikers, skiers, ice-climbers, fishermen, hunters, campers, and horseback riders.

We are currently gathering 25,000 signatures statewide to qualify the “Montana Trap-Free Public Lands Initiative” (I-160) for the November 2010 ballot. Learn how you can help our effort

The “Montana Trap-Free Public Lands Initiative” (I-160), if passed by the voters of Montana, would prohibit trapping on public lands, “except as allowed for scientific and propagation purposes or for the actions of government in protecting the safety and health of citizens.” Download I-160

With great respect for Jim Bridger and his fur-trading brethren, we believe they would agree that today Montana’s public lands and wildlife are not only Montana’s heritage, they are Montana’s future and should be trap-free.
